WELCOME TO MYSTIC TESSA’S BLOG
LUCK ~ ARE YOU LUCKY OR UNLUCKY ~ OR IS KARMA @WORK?
Is it yours for the taking or do you need to be born with it? How superstitious are you that you feel you need a lucky charm of some sort? Do you feel you your birthdate has something to do with it? Do you feel your numbers line up or don’t ? Why is it that some seem to lead a charmed life where it would even appear they have 9 lives such as a cat? Does the belief in luck start as a superstition? Does serendipity play a part? Are you an rather pessimist or grump or even worse considered evil by many so that you always seem to emit bad karma? These questions I have ponder many a time … so I wish to explore. Perhaps these questions have crossed your mind as well …Let me start off with a few definitions as described in the dictionary:
LUCK: Success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions.
‘it was just luck that the first kick went in’
Chance considered as a force that causes good or bad things to happen
Something regarded as bringing about or portending good or bad things.
‘I don't like Friday—it's bad luck’
Chance to find or acquire.
‘he lucked into a disc-jockey job
Achieve success or advantage by good luck.
‘I lucked out and found a wonderful woman’
as luck would have it
Used to indicate that something happened purely by chance.
as luck would have it, his route took him very near where they lived’
for luck
To bring good fortune. ‘I wear this crystal under my costume for luck’
good (or the best of) luck
Used to express wishes for success. 'Good luck with your studies!’
the luck of the draw
The outcome of chance rather than something one can control. 'Quality of care depends largely on the luck of the draw'
SUPERSITION: Excessively credulous belief in and reverence for the supernatural.
‘he dismissed the ghost stories as mere superstition’
A widely held but irrational belief in supernatural influences, especially as leading to good or bad luck, or a practice based on such a belief.
‘she touched her locket for luck, a superstition she'd had since childhood’
KARMA: the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences.
Worst case scenario, I come back with a cold and am still left with the daunting task of undoing all my bad karma with good karma.’
But with karma, at some future point, everyone will still have to pay for their mistakes.’
SERENDIPITY: The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.
‘a fortunate stroke of serendipity’
‘Evolution seems to proceed not by design but by chance and serendipity.’
Success often depends on serendipity and clues turned up by other investigations.’
‘It's only luck or rather serendipity, which makes them successful.’
I don’t know if you will believe in LUCK but many people have come to me to read their cards since they feel “like a negative or black cloud hangs over them” so it got me really wondering and thinking of the mystery of why some people seem more “lucky” than others, whether it’s in love, business, or even just at the casinos or lotteries. Or even their final destinies and fates. Believe me, it is a mystery since there is no real answer! One answer I could come up with is, just try to be a good person by doing little acts of kindness here and there but even the trick there, is you can’t expect any rewards either. Additionally, few rules or philosophies if you will could apply here. The main one is what they call The Law of Attraction = What you focus on, you attract into your life. Or do some make their own luck where it’s been stated in another sort of scenario or pattern if you will, some of the very luckiest people were bold enough to go after what they wanted and even to amazing themselves, where they frequently got it, sometimes in spades! If it was written as an equation: Desire + Action = Luck. People who believe they are lucky expect to win, so they are more likely to enter a contest, and buy a lottery or raffle ticket. A statistician might counter that it is because they enter so often that their odds of winning are increased. That being said, one must ask then, just how do “lucky people ”get so lucky? Perhaps, some people seize an opportunity when it comes along, instead of fearing it or passing it on those endless possibilities to that most definite “lucky” person who ends up marrying that person who is a dreamboat of a mate or if it is an invention, they end up making a mint with it. “When one door closes, another opens”, so to speak.
Should you then look up your horoscope or lucky numbers or both so as to know to when to buy that ticket that is so far out of reach yet many chase & chase after it, perpetually hoping and praying their numbers come up … I expect that is why many are gamblers and there is a gambler’s anonmymous!
“Luck? I don’t know anything about luck. I’ve never banked on it and I’m afraid of people who do. Luck to me is something else: Hard work – and realizing what is opportunity and what isn’t.“ – Lucille Ball
Another scenario, do you feel you are “lucky in love?” What is your perception of love and even how did you grow up watching your parents interact? Or even do you find yourself dating or getting involved with the same type of woman/man, thus thwarting your efforts for true love or a meaningful and fulfilling relationship? Perhaps, never giving a thought that it may be just a little changing or tweaking to your way of thinking. To give you an example: Instead of saying, if I go out tonight and I don’t meet a man who is tall, dark, handsome and he must love dogs and be able to cook. He must be financially secure too! You may have this check list programmed in your head that you do it subconsciously. In any case, you can try instead something like: “I would like to at least meet someone who is good and kind”
Then there is the point to be made, maybe it’s the way you look at life in general. You have the eternal optimist versus the pessimist. Such as the saying goes “Is the glass ½ full or ½ empty?” Of course the optimist will say “Why it’s ½ full of course!” but the pessimist will say “It’s most definitely ½ empty!”
With this sentiment in mind, would you say that people that do win the lottery or reach fame & fortune, are they lucky? Even if they defy all odds or rhyme or reason, they do seem to feel LUCKY? You go “HUH, WHAT!!!?” Case in point with a woman named :
Vesna Vulovic: The Stewardess Who Survived a terrorist attack at 33,000 feet
On January 26, 1972, a Yugoslav Airlines DC-9 departed from Copenhagen for Belgrade (via Zagreb) with 28 passengers and crew. At an altitude of 33,000 feet, a bomb in the cargo section, planted by the Ustashe Croatian separatist group, exploded. The plane disintegrated and crashed on the mountains. In what must be one of the greatest survival stories of all time, stewardess Vesna Vulovic survived the 33,000 foot descent sitting on the tail of the plane.

22 year old Vulovic wasn't even supposed to be on that plane. As she later stated in an interview, it was another Vesna who was supposed to be on that flight, but she was happy with the mix-up as it allowed her to make her first trip to Denmark. She ended up with a fractured skull, two broken legs, and three broken vertebrae - one of which was crushed and left her paralyzed from the waist down. Vulovic spent several months in and out of hospitals; operations allowed her to walk again. She became a celebrity when the Guinness Book of World Records invited her to a ceremony in London with Paul McCartney. She is listed for surviving the longest fall without a parachute. Vulovic is now a national hero in Serbia and spent the late 90s marching in Belgrade against Slobodan Milosovic. Bet you’re saying after you read this, in a way, you can’t decide which but depending how you look at things, bet she feels lucky!!!
Then there is people who believe heavily in superstitions and won’t go ANYWHERE without there LUCKY charm/talisman/amulet or even lucky piece of clothing! Such as a shirt even heaven forbid it is way too small and most likely makes their stomach stick out or look lumpy! LOL!
Then there is the superstitions, maybe not so much in recent times, most likely a lot of us grew up in the 40’s-90’s with … perhaps a grandmother aghast with
“Hurry up & shut that umbrella in the house”
“ You knocked the salt over, hurry up & throw some over your shoulders or else bad luck will surely come to you”
With a couple of friends giggling & laughing “Cross your fingers & toes” especially if it was something you truly wanted.
“Oh don’t go under the ladder otherwise bad luck is coming”
“Cross the street, a black cat is crossing your path”
At your birthday ”Make a wish but don’t dare tell anyone or else it won’t come true for sure”
You might say to yourself /someone near if your opposite prominent palm is itchy “WoW! My left palm is itchy, I’m sure to get some money today!”
There is no real end to any of these Superstitions and new ones surpisingly pop even today and every day! Surpisingly as well many dare not disregard these superstious beliefs otherwise fear of bad luck forever looming over them!? Perhaps but no one can say with certainty that is the case, even the scientists!!!

Then there is stories/cases where SERENDIPITY comes into play and you find yourself in the right place at the right time or even better what seem at the time as bad turns out to be good luck such as these heartwarming attestments:
I was third in line at the checkout, and the lady at the cashier was purchasing basic items. Two cans of cat food, a can of tuna, a loaf of bread, a quart of milk, a package of cookies. Her money was in her hand as the cashier gave her the total. She was 86 cents short. She checked her purse to no avail. “I can put something back,” she said. The man ahead of me reached into his pocket, palmed a dollar, bent down as if to pick something up, and said, “I think you dropped this.”

I was deploying overseas so I decided to leave my black cat with my mother. My mother had been feeling alone lately, and I hoped he would change that. After two years, I was ready to get him back. Before I could do that, I got a call from my mother. She said she had fallen asleep earlier and woke up to him on her chest, meowing and pushing her face. He had never done that before. She smelled something funny, jumped out of bed and found the kitchen on fire. My mom is alive because of him. He’s hers now!
How do you think GOOD & BAD KARMA works? Myself, I always that the old saying “What goes around, comes around” but that could be true but after reading more on the subject, I do believe what you put out there also comes back to you. For example if you are always wishing, hoping, even praying that bad things will happen to those that have in the past done you wrong, it seems to be a waste of time and that it will come back on you. Perhaps for a moment you can and then move on or better, although difficult for many, is just to forgive and move on. It would seem it can only do your heart good, not to mention your future destiny.
So to conclude, there is always till the end of time, man’s chase to obtain GOOD LUCK AND AVOID BAD LUCK AT ALL COSTS!!! This writer’s point of view although a bit enlightening … is that is just as mysterious as ever. Good luck or bad luck, your decision.
